AUTHORIZING THE NAME CHANGE OF THE "CHUCK SILCOX ANIMAL
CARE AND ADOPTION CENTER" TO THE
"CHUCK AND BRENDA SILCOX ANIMAL CARE AND ADOPTION CENTER"
WHEREAS, in 2008, after the passing of Councilmember Chuck Silcox, the City named
the Animal Care and Control Center the "Chuck Silcox Animal Care and Control Center" in his
honor; and
WHEREAS, following his death, his wife, Brenda Silcox, took a leadership role in
promoting and expanding many of the animal welfare programs that her husband started while on
City Council; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Silcox started a non-profit foundation (Cowtown Goes to the Dogs) to
support the City's Animal Care and Control Center, and donated, on an ongoing basis, much
needed animal comfort items including blankets, food, toys and shade structures; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Silcox also served on the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee as both a
member and chairperson longer than any other Fort Worth resident. Furthermore, Ms. Silcox was
a tireless advocate for the abandoned and lost animals of Fort Worth and a friend to all the animals
up until her passing in September 2020; and
WHEREAS the City Manager's Office recommends the changing the name of the facility
to honor both Brenda Silcox and Chuck Silcox great contributions to the people and animals of
Fort Worth.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FORT WORTH, TEXAS, THAT:
The "Chuck Silcox Animal Care and Adoption Center" located at 4900 Martin Street be officially
renamed and known as the "Chuck and Brenda Silcox Animal Care and Adoption Center".
