A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
WORTH, TEXAS, CANCELING THE WORK SESSION ON JUNE 15, 2021;
CHANGING THE START TIME FOR THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL
MEETING OF JUNE 15, 2021 FROM 7:00 PM TO 3:00 PM; AND SETTING
THE TIME AND LOCATION OF THE JUNE 15, 2021 SPECIAL CALLED
CANVASSING MEETING TO 7:00 PM AT THE FORT WORTH
CONVENTION CENTER, 1201 HOUSTON STREET, FORT WORTH, TEXAS
76102
WHEREAS, Chapter Ill, Section 5 of the Fort Worth City Charter requires the City Council
to meet at such time and place as may be prescribed by ordinance or resolution, but not less than
forty-four regular and special meetings shall be held each calendar year; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 3.2 of the City Council Rules of Procedure, unless
otherwise officially changed by the City Council, the Council meets in City Hall on Tuesday of each
week at times set by the City Council by Resolution; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the City Charter and the City Council Rules of Procedure, a
Special Called Meeting may be called by the Mayor or three Councilmembers, provided that the call
is made in writing and states the object of the meeting and provided that no business shall be
transacted other than that specified in the call; and
WHEREAS, on November 10, 2020, the City Council adopted Resolution 5297-11-2020,
setting the regularly scheduled City Council Work Sessions and City Council Meetings for the
months of January 2021 through December 2021 and providing that all meetings be held at City
Hall unless otherwise changed by ordinance or resolution; and
WHEREAS, an election was held on May 1, 2021, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and
City Councilmembers for Districts 2 through 9, with a runoff required for the offices of Mayor and
City Councilmember for Districts 6 through 9, which runoff was held on June 5, 2021; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Texas Election Code, election results must be
canvassed by the City Council as the authority that called the election and attendance by
two members of the Fort Worth City Council constitutes a quorum for purposes of
convening and conducting the canvass of an election; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor has issued a written call for a Special Called Meeting on June
15, 2021 at 7:00 PM for the sole purpose of canvassing the runoff election and swearing in
the elected individuals; and
WHEREAS, in order to allow for the efficient conduct of City business, canvass of runoff
election results, and swearing in of the new Mayor and Councilmembers, it is recommended that the
Work Session originally scheduled for June 15, 2021 at 3:00 pm be canceled, that the start time of
the regular City Council Meeting of June 15, 2021 be changed from 7:00 pm to 3:00 pm, and that
the Special Called Meeting for purposes of canvassing the runoff election and swearing in the
individuals elected at said runoff be held in the Fort Worth Convention Center, 1201 Houston Street,
at 7:00 pm on June 15, 2021; and
WHEREAS, adoption of this resolution serves as official action by the City Council in
accordance with the City Charter and City Council Rules of Procedure, cancelling the June 15, 2021
Work Session, changing the state time for the June 15, 2021 regular City Council Meeting, and
setting the location for the June 15, 2021 Special Called Meeting of the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, THAT:
1. The City Council Work Session scheduled for 3:00 PM on June 15, 2021 is canceled.
2. The start time of the regular City Council Meeting of June 15, 2021 is changed from
7:00 pm to 3:00 p.m., which meeting shall be held in City Hall located at 200 Texas
Street.
3. The June 15, 2021 Special Called Meeting of the Fort Worth City Council for
purposes of canvassing the results of the June 5 runoff election, swearing in
the new Mayor and the elected council members and hearing the remarks from
those who were elected shall be held at 7:00 pm at the Fort Worth Convention
Center, 1201 Houston Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76102. No other City business
shall be transacted at this meeting.
