SUBJECT: NEIGHBORHOODS, USA VIRTUAL CONFERENCE ON
NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS
The purpose of this Informal Report is to update the City Council about the Neighborhoods, USA Virtual Conference
on Neighborhood Concerns, May 19-22, 2021. NUSA's first 100%virtual conference is being hosted by Fort Worth's
Community Engagement Office and at least 700 neighborhood and nonprofit leaders, city staff and elected officials
from across the United States are expected to attend.
Principal sponsors include Facebook, the Blue Zones Project and Digital Press. Thanks to their generous
contributions, over 100 representatives from registered Fort Worth neighborhood associations will be attending
the conference at no charge.
Keynote speakers will include Pastor Chris Freeland of Doxology Church, 2016 Danny Scarth Trailblazer Award
recipient, Ms. Jakayla Dixon and 2020 Fort Worth Neighbor of the Year, Mr. Daniel Guido.
The following cities and towns from the Neighborhood Engagement & Revitalization Alliance of North Texas have
partnered with Fort Worth to host 80 workshops and 50 networking discussions: Allen, Anna, Balch Springs,
Carrollton, Cedar Hill, Town of Flower Mound, Garland, Lewisville, McKinney, Mesquite, North Richland Hills, Plano,
Richardson and Rowlett.
Community partners provided photos and digital footage used to create 7 neighborhood pride tour videos: Artes de
la Rosa, The Bike Gangs of Fort Worth, Camp Bowie District, First Tee, Fort Worth Community Arts Center, Fort
Worth Public Art, Fort Worth Library, Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, Fort Worth Young Professionals, Glasslake,
LCOMM Marketing, LVTRise, National Multicultural Western Museum, Near Southside Fort Worth, Riverside
Alliance, St. Demetrios, Tarrant Area Food Bank and WFAA.
Two locals will be competing for national award recognition during the conference. Madelyn Gibbs, a Community
Engagement Liaison with the Community Engagement team was nominated for the Who's Who in America's
Neighborhoods and the Fairmount Neighborhood Association picked up a Best Neighborhood Program nomination
for their annual Festivus program. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on May 22.
Over 400 people registered early to take advantage of a $50 discount and to have a Special Event Package mailed to
their home. Registration ended May 14.
