HomeMy WebLinkAbout(0007) IR 21-10602 - Goodwill Industries of FW Summer Earn and Learn ProgramINFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 21-10602 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council June 22, 2021 Page 1 of 1 i o � SUBJECT: GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF FORT WORTH SUMMER EARN AND rrA LEARN PROGRAM (SEAL) The purpose of this Informal Report is to provide information related to the city's participation in the 2021 Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth Summer Earn and Learn Program (SEAL). Through a partnership, the SEAL program started in 2017 with: • Texas Workforce Commission(TWC) — Vocational Rehabilitation, • Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County • Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth The program is about creating pathways to employment with public and private employers for students with disabilities; ages 15-22. Workforce Solutions covers all wages and Workers Compensation insurance. Vocational Rehabilitation will provide any accommodations required. The Summer Earn & Learn Program aims to: • Inspire students through the power of work. • Introduce them to a world of possibilities in a variety of careers. • Prepare students for the future through developing and enhancing their work skills. • Help students gain familiarity with the workplace environment and develop transferable job skills. The City of Fort Worth is proud to announce once again collaborating with Fort Worth Goodwill Inc. to participate in the SEAL Program; after a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Although participation in the program is down for the Fort Worth area compared to prior years, the City is excited to work with nine (9) interns over the summer with several departments to include Municipal Court, Public Events, City Manager/Mayor & City Council, and Development Services. Interns perform a range of tasks to include general office work, event planning, assist with program delivery, customer service tasks, setup and take down, data evaluation and gathering bench -marking information. This year's program has three cohort groups: • June 7-July 11 • June 21-July 25 • July 12-August 13 A follow-up report will be provided to the City Council upon completion of this year's program.
