The United States Department of Justice has discontinued the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant (LLEBG) program and replaced it by combining the Edward Byrne Memorial Fund, a discretionary grant program and a new program to create the FY 2006 Byme Memorial Justice Assistance Grant {JAG}. Under the LLEBG, the City of Fart Worth, along with several other jurisdictions, were deemed "disparate" agencies and had to negotiate with Tarrant County to develop a program budget and strategy. Previously each city applied for their own grant and contracted with Tarrant County to provide funds. This strategy is not allowed in Justice Assistance Grants. All funds destined for agencies certii'led as disparate must be pooled, a spending plan must be developed and one agency must serve as the cognizant jurisdiction to apply for and disperse funds. A committee of all impacted law enforcement agencies developed an application strategy and Fart Worth was selected to serve as the cognizant agency as it did for last year's Justice Assistance Grant. A total of $444,794 is available for all jurisdictions, with no matching funds required and will be distributed in the fallowing manner: Jurisdiction Funding Purpose Ares Logname: 35D6~AG Pagc 1 of 2 Tarrant County $71,166.00 Prosecution and Court; Drug Treatment; Prevention and Education Programs Arlington $118,850.00 Law Enforcement Programs Fort Warkh $227,530.00 Planning, Evaluation and Technology Haltom City $9,211.00 Law Enforcement Programs Hurst $8,865.00 Planning, E~aluatian and Technology North Richland Hills $9,172.0{?
