(CD 9) Authorize Execution of an Encroachment Agreement with Cook Children's Medical Center for the Construction of an Underground
Pedestrian Tunnel Beneath a Public Street Located at 1500 Cooper Street
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council authorize the execution of an encroachment agreement with Cook Children's Medical Center for the
construction of an underground pedestrian tunnel beneath an existing public street located at 1500 Cooper Street.
DISCUSSION:
Cook Children's Medical Center has requested an encroachment agreement to allow for the construction of an underground pedestrian tunnel
crossing beneath a City street located at 1500 Cooper Street. The purpose of the tunnel is for a connection to a future building.
The Encroachment Committee, consisting of staff from the Transportation and Public Works Department, the Water Department, and the
Development Services Department, has reviewed and approved the encroachment request. The application fee for the encroachment agreement
will be $700.00 and the annual right-of-way fee is $474.00. The agreement will have a 30-year term with automatic renewals if none of the
conditions change. The application and annual right-of-way fees for the agreement have already been paid by Cook Children's Medical Center.
The property is located in COUNCIL DISTRICT 9.
FISCAL INFORMATION / CERTIFICATION:
The Director of Finance certifies that upon approval of the above recommendation and execution of the agreement, funds will be deposited into the
General Fund. The Development Services Department (and Financial Management Services) is responsible for the collection and deposit of
funds due to the City.
