Ratify the application for and authorize acceptance of a grant from United Way of Tarrant County in the total amount of $10,000.00 to provide mortgage/rental assistance for families affected by COVID-19; and 2. Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the Grants Operating Other Fund, subject to receipt of the grant, in the amount of $10,000.00, for the purpose of funding mortgage and rental assistance. In May 2020, the Neighborhood Services Department applied for and was awarded emergency relief funds from United Way of Tarrant County in the amount of $10,000.00. The funds were to provide financial assistance to Tarrant County residents affected by COVID-19 in the form of mortgage/rental payments, including arrears for up to two months, security deposits and administrative fees. The purpose of this Mayor and Council Communication (M&C) is to appropriate the $10,000.00 to existing expenses, for which an M&C was not completed when the funds were approved. To make sure the funds could be used, staff requested that United Way of Tarrant County extend the expense timeline for one year. United Way approved an extension to May 1, 2021. This project serves ALL COUNCIL DISTRICTS. FISCAL INFORMATION / CERTIFICATION: The Director of Finance certifies that upon approval of the above recommendations funds will be available in the current operating budget, as appropriated, in the Grants Operating Other Fund. The Neighborhood Services Department (and Financial Management Services) will be responsible for the collection and deposit of funds due to the City. Prior to an expenditure being incurred, the Neighborhood Services Department has the responsibility to validate the availability of funds. This is an advance grant.
