HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 10682 INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERSNo. 21-10682 October 12, 2021 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council Page 1of 1 SUBJECT: APPLICATION FOR DEFENSE ECONOMIC ASSISTANCE ADJUSTMENT GRANT FOR THE NAVAL AIR STATION JOINT RESERVE BASE FORT WORTH The Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth (NASJRB) is proposing to consolidate its Fleet and Family Support Center and Navy College Program offices to better serve Fort Worth areamilitary families, residents, and veterans.NASJRB has identifieda 17,000 square foot vacant structure on base to renovate for the combined services at an estimated cost of $5.9 million.NASJRB has asked the Cityof Fort Worthto apply for aDefense Economic Assistance Adjustment Grant (DEAAG) through the Office of theGovernor, Texas Military Preparedness Commission, and to provide $1.2 million in local matching funds. The City submitted a similar application in 2020 in partnership with NASJRB but did not receive grant funding. The 2021 application decreases the total project cost from $7.4 million to $5.9 million, decreases the grant request from $5.0 million to $1.7 million, and increases the Department of Defense match from $1.2 million to $3.0 million. The City’s local match amount remains the same. The October 19 City Council agenda will contain a resolution authorizing the grant application and the City’s matching funds of $1.2 million. If the grant is awarded, staff anticipates the funding will be needed in late FY2022 and the source will be the General Fund.
