DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this Mayor and Council Communication (M&C) is to authorize acceptance of an additional
amount of$204,663.39 in grant funds from the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) for the
administration of the 2012 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). On April 3, 2012, (M&C C-25544) the
City Council authorized the application and acceptance of a grant from the TDA to underwrite the 2012
SFSP, which provides nutritious breakfasts, lunches and snacks that are prepared and delivered by a
private vendor to youths 18 years of age and younger. Initially, the City applied for and received the
amount of$600,500.00 to support the SFSP's initiatives. TDA then increased the SFSP grant amount by
an additional amount of$204,663.39 (for a total amount of$805,163.39) to support an increase in the
number of meals and snacks served from May through September of 2012. Program expenditures were
made in anticipation of this additional reimbursement.
This program serves ALL COUNCIL DISTRICTS.
