INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 21-10716 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council December 7, 2021 Page 1 of 1 i i7 Y *a SUBJECT: INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICTS UPDATE rFrn Yg7'3 This informal report will provide an overview of the Education Strategy Manager and the work he is doing on behalf of various city departments and city leadership. The primary function of the Education Strategy Manager is to leverage city resources towards improving educational opportunities and developing a more competitive workforce, through establishing strategic partnerships, and collaborations with various school districts, businesses, social service, and community institutions. While the original work of the manager primarily revolved around reading skills and reading retention over the summer months, the position has expanded to include a variety of partnership opportunities with the school districts that are part of the Fort Worth community. Over the past several months, the manager has facilitated meetings between city and school district staff. These staff-lead meetings have identified ways we can work together and improve the current education trajectory of our various school systems. The meetings also identify what role the city might play in helping them with their individual programs and projects. During each meeting, city staff provides statistical information on demographics and transportation and park and capital projects. The meetings also allow school district staff to provide updates to city staff and identify those areas where partnerships and collaborations are possible. To date,we have meet with following ISDs; Fort Worth, Crowley,Keller, Aledo,Northwest, HEB and Eagle Mountain Saginaw. Our next meeting is with White Settlement in November. Our goal is to meet with all 15 ISDs that have students inside the Fort Worth city limits. The attachment has been included for your use as a reference point for all of our ISDs. The map includes school tax information, as well as ISD specific student population. Please feel free to direct all questions to Lawrence Thompson, Education Strategy Manager 817-392-6575.
