NASJRB has identified a 17,000 square foot vacant structure on base to renovate for the combined services at an estimated cost of $5.9 million. NASJRB has asked the City of Fort Worth to apply for a Defense Economic Assistance Adjustment Grant (DEAAG) through the Office of the Governor, Texas Military Preparedness Commission, and to provide $1.2 million in local matching funds. The City submitted a similar application in 2020 in partnership with NASJRB but did not receive grant funding. The 2021 application decreases the total project cost from $7.4 million to $5.9 million, decreases the grant request from $5.0 million to $1.7 million, and increases the Department of Defense match from $1.2 million to $3.0 million. The City's local match amount remains the same. The October 19 City Council agenda will contain a resolution authorizing the grant application and the City's matching funds of $1.2 million. If the grant is awarded, staff anticipates the funding will be needed in late FY2022 and the source will be the General Fund.
