Artist's Concept
Gordon Huether participated in a remote artist -in -residence program with the Fort Worth Police Department during the
summer of 2020 and has participated in an ongoing dialogue with FWPA to develop his concept for the South Patrol
Division Police Headquarters. He describes the sculpture as a metaphor for our officers in blue supporting their
community, while the mirrored -finished stainless steel sphere literally and metaphorically reflects that community, it is
also meant to include the officers as a part of the community. The sphere is the perfect metaphor for community, in its
reflective nature and its shape to loosely represent our world as a whole. The blue metal supports, which represents law
enforcement, together with the reflective sphere, which represents the community, becomes a bridge between the two
and makes them ONE.
The blue supports will be made of painted steel and spaced apart horizontally giving the visual effect and metaphor of
being open and transparent.
The sculpture will be approximately twelve (12) feet tall, and nearly nine (9) feet in diameter and will sit on a concrete
plinth that will also act as signage for the facility. The artist has carefully and thoughtfully placed the sculpture to be
contextual to the site, maximizing its visual access to pedestrians and motorists as well as people using the new facility.
Goals:
• Collaborative Process
• Commanding Yet Welcoming
• Engaging to a Wide Audience
• Iconic
• Contextual to the Site
• A Bridge Between the Community and Law Enforcement
