(CD 9) Authorize the Fort Worth Public Library to Donate Withdrawn Paperback Books to the Tarrant County Jail and Find that the Donation of
Books Serves a Public Purpose
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council:
1. Authorize the Fort Worth Public Library to donate withdrawn library paperback books to the Tarrant County Jail; and
2. Find the donation serves to carry out the public purpose of promoting literacy, and that adequate controls are in place to carry out such public
purpose.
DISCUSSION:
The Fort Worth Public Library plans to donate withdrawn paperback books to the Tarrant County Jail in Fort Worth, Texas on a quarterly schedule
during Fiscal Year 2022. The books the Library identified for donation are no longer needed in the public library's collection but could continue to
benefit the community. This donation would help keep books accessible and promote literacy and learning through reading. The City will ensure
adequate controls are in place to carry out such public purpose through the donation process.
The Tarrant County jail is located in COUNCIL DISTRICT 9.
A Form 1295 is not required because: This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity.
FISCAL INFORMATION / CERTIFICATION:
The Director of Finance certifies that approval of these recommendations will have no material effect on City funds.
