DISCUSSION:
In July 2010, the Parks and Community Services Department(PACS) staff was notified that PACS is a
recipient of the 2010 Take Me Fishing Grant from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
PACS originally served as an "Anchor Agency" in 2007 to help train other park and recreation agencies
and organizations in fishing, boating and aquatic stewardship best practices. PACS continued to receive
this grant in 2008 and 2009.
The grant will provide funding for equipment and supplies for the mobile education unit purchased in 2009.
The goal is to reconnect youth in Fort Worth with the outdoors, engage them in recreational boating and
fishing and introduce new life skills. There are no matching funds requirements for the grant.
On July 28, 2010, the Parks and Community Services Advisory Board endorsed staffs recommendation to
the City Council to accept these grant funds.
Greenbriar Lake and Community Center is located in COUNCIL DISTRICT 9. The 2010 Take Me Fishing
Grant will serve the entire city.
FISCAL INFORMATION / CERTIFICATION:
The Financial Management Services Director certifies that upon approval of the above recommendations,
receipt of the grant, and adoption of the attached appropriation ordinance, funds will be available in the
current operating budget, as appropriated, of the Grants Fund.
