DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this M&C is to authorize the use of funds from various revenue sources to fund the Parks
and Community Services Department's Community Tree Planting Program (the Program). During the
deliberations for the Fiscal Year 2009 operating budget, the City Manager was authorized to use three
funding sources in order to continue the Program, which was slated for elimination. These sources
include Tree Removal Fee Revenue, Parks Royalty Revenue, and the Chesapeake Energy Corporation
donation.
On September 16, 2008, (M&C G-16276)the City Council authorized the City Manager to accept a
monetary donation in the amount of$100,000.00 per year for five-years for a total of$500,000.00 from
Chesapeake Energy Corporation. This will be the third payment from Chesapeake Energy Corporation.
This M&C also authorizes and appropriates the use of$100,000.00 in Parks Royalty Revenue for the
Program in Fiscal Year 2011 and transfers this amount from the Park Gas Lease Project Fund to the
Community Tree Planting Program fund. Of the $367,258.30 appropriated for Fiscal Year 2010, there was
$42,550.00 in savings due to personnel costs; this savings will be used towards funding the program in
Fiscal Year 2011.
