This segment of Bellaire Drive is designated as a future on-street bicycle facility in the Bike and Trail Network map of the Active Transportation Plan. In 2020 city staff received requests from the public for implementation of this future designated continuation of the bicycle lanes on Bellaire Drive South from Oakmont Boulevard to Bryant Irvin Road. Staff conducted a virtual community meeting on October 5, 2020, to receive public input on the project and reconfiguration of the street. Community input was supportive of the project. Staff does not anticipate negative impacts to vehicle capacity with the reconfiguration. After the community meeting, staff met with representatives from St. Peter Antiochian Orthodox Church regarding parking on the street. Staff re-designed the project such that on-street parking will be accommodated in front of the church and its school to facilitate safe and legal parking with the addition of the bike lane. The striping changes will be complete by Summer 2022. If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Porter, Assistant Director, Transportation and Public Works, Regional Transportation and Innovation Division, at 817-392-7259.
