HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 5570-05-2022 A Resolution NO. 5570-05-2022 CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION HELD ON MAY 7, 2022, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A CITY COUNCIL MEMBER FOR CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 4 TO SERVE THE REMAINDER OF AN UNEXPIRED TERM WHEREAS, on February 8, 2022, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 25327-02-2022, calling for and ordering a special election to be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022, for the election of a Council Member for District 4 to serve the remainder of an unexpired term until the regular City Council election in May 2023; and WHEREAS, on May 7, 2022, a special election was held at which the qualified voters of the City had the opportunity to vote for the purpose of electing a Council Member for District 4; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapter 67 of the Texas Election Code, the City Council of the City of Fort Worth is required to canvass the returns and declare the results of the election; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH THAT: SECTION 1. The declarations and findings contained in the preamble of this Resolution are hereby found to be true and correct and shall be made a part hereof. SECTION 2. The City Council hereby finds and declares that the election for a City Council Member in District 4 was held on May 7, 2022, at which election qualified voters were given the opportunity to vote for the purpose of electing a Council Member for District 4. SECTION 3. The City Council further finds and declares that the returns for such election are as follows: Member of City Council—District 4 Alan Blaylock 29663 James H. McBride 272 Teresa Ramirez 620 Tara M. Wilson 19562 SECTION 4. The City Council further finds and declares that such returns are correct, and adopts them as the returns of the election held on May 7, 2022, together with the tabulation of the total number of votes received in each precinct. SECTION 5. The City Council further finds that Alan Blaylock received a majority of the total number of votes received by all candidates for the office of Council Member for District 4 and that Alan Blaylock is declared elected as Council Member for District 4 to serve the remainder of an unexpired term. SECTION 6. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting of the Fort Worth City Council at which this Resolution was adopted was open to the public, and that public notice of the time,place and purpose of said meeting was given, as required by Chapter 551 of the Texas Government Code.
