HomeMy WebLinkAbout(0006) IR 22-023 - Proposed Naming Process for TRV BridgesINFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 22-023 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council February 15, 2022 Page 1 of 1 �`o s SUBJECT: PROPOSED NAMING PROCESS FOR TRINITY RIVER VISION rrA BRIDGES The three Trinity River Vision bridges -- located on Henderson Street (SH 199), North Main Street (Bus. 287), and White Settlement Road -- were substantially completed in 2021. The bridges will span the future Trinity River bypass channel as part of the Trinity River Vision/Central City Flood Control Project being designed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Given the significance of the Trinity River Vision project and bridges, Mayor Mattie Parker has requested that staff initiate a naming process with stakeholder and public involvement. Staff recommends the following process, which has been used successfully for recent naming of libraries. 1. City and project partners advertise naming initiative (starting February 28) 2. Public submits naming ideas through City website for the three bridges (1 month) 3. Naming Committee reviews submittals and selects top five sets of names (2 weeks) 4. Public votes on five sets of names through City website (2 weeks) 5. City Council adopts resolution naming the bridges with the winning public choice 6. City installs naming signs in coordination with the Texas Department of Transportation The Naming Committee would consist of representatives from the City of Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Tarrant Regional Water District, Streams & Valleys, and Visit Fort Worth.
