HomeMy WebLinkAbout(0006) IR 22-043 - FWMC Judicial Reappointment and Compensation RecommendationINFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 22-043 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council March 1, 2022 C �d Page 1 of 2 �`o s SUBJECT: FWMC JUDICIAL REAPPOINTMENT AND COMPENSATION rrA RECOMMENDATION The purpose of this Informal Report is to share with the Mayor and Council the recommendations of the Legislative Affairs Committee for the: • Reappointment of nine (9) Municipal Court Full -Time Judges, • FY22 and FY23 Compensation plan for Municipal Court Full -Time Judges and, • Compensation increases for the Municipal Court Substitute Judges. For background, Fort Worth Municipal Court Full -Time Judges are appointed to two-year terms with the current terms expiring on March 31, 2022. Chapter 30 of the Texas Government Code sets out the requirements for the appointment of judges and the presiding judge and provides that the governing body shall determine the salary of a municipal judge: • Section 10-3 of the City of Fort Worth Code of Ordinances provides in pertinent part that: o Municipal court judges shall be selected and appointed or reappointed for a term of two years, commencing April 1 of even -numbered years. o The city council shall designate one of the municipal judges as chief judge and one of the municipal judges as deputy chief judge. Chief Judge Danny Rodgers made a presentation and provided the four (4) recommendations below to the Legislative Affairs Committee at their meeting on February 22, 2022. Following the presentation, the Committee voted to move the recommendations forward for consideration by Mayor/Council. These four (4) recommendations of the Legislative Affairs Committee is currently scheduled to be presented to the Mayor and Council on an M&C at the March 8, 2022 Council Meeting. 1. Reappointment of Andrew T. Bradshaw, Raquel D. Brown, Simon C. Gonzalez, Melanie Houston, Thaddeus Iwuji, Claudia A. Martinez, Robert Neel McDonald, James D. Rodgers, and Patricia L. Summers as Municipal Judges for a two-year term commencing April 1, 2022 and ending March 31, 2024, 2. Designate James D. Rodgers as Chief Judge and Simon C. Gonzalez as Deputy Chief Judge 3. Set the FY22 and FY23 salary for the Municipal Judges, Chief Judge, and Deputy Chief Judge. Specifically, a. Chief Judge - 4% in FY22 effective April 1, 2022 and 4% in FY23 effective the first pay period in October 2022 b. Increase the hourly rate of Municipal Court Substitute Judges from $43.97 hourly to $50.00 hourly effective April 1, 2022.
