3. How does Community One choose the schools they serve and could they ever expand to
Southwest High School?
Community One selects schools based on crime data and proximity to the barber shops that implement
their Shop Talk program. Southwest High School can be added but, due to staffing restrictions,
participant amounts will remain the same overall.
4. How does the proposed MHMR project work with or support the Fort Worth PD Crisis
Intervention Team? Is this training different from what is already being offered to officers, or
does it supplement their training?
The MHMR staff and training provided by this grant supplements existing positions working with the
Crisis Intervention Team and the training provided but funded through other resources. Currently,
recruits receive one week of Crisis Intervention Training. In addition to this training, officers can elect
to complete Mental Health Officer Training (MHOT) to receive certification. Adding a staff person to
the Department's crisis intervention efforts increases the number of in-service MHOT hours that are
available while also covering the requirements of Crisis Intervention Training separate from officers
that can take this elective training.
