AUTHORIZE APPLICATION FOR AND AUTHORIZE ACCEPTANCE OF THE GRANT
PROJECT FOR THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE GRANT PROGRAM FROM THE STATE OF
TEXAS, OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR, PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICE AND MAKING
ASSURANCES REQUIRED BY THE PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR'S
OFFICE
WHEREAS, the Public Safety Office (PSO), of the Office of the Governor (OOG), funds grant
projects throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fort Worth finds that it is in the best interest of the
citizens of Fort Worth to utilize grant funds from the PSO for the Fort Worth Police Department Crime
Laboratory Chemistry Unit for costs associated with the replacement of aging laboratory equipment,
including hydrogen generators or similar. The Chemistry Using will use the hydrogen generators to tests
evidence for the presence of substances which are controlled by federal and State law, as well as test
driving under influence/ driving while intoxicated (DUI/DWI) samples to determine the blood alcohol
concentration during the Fiscal Year 2023 Grant Cycle; and
WHEREAS, the release of the grant funds is contingent upon the completion of specified
requirements set by the PSO, including the passage of a Resolution by the City Council containing certain
assurances.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
WORTH, TEXAS, THAT:
1. The City Council approves the submission of the grant application to the Office of the Governor;
2. The City Council designates the City Manager, through the Assistant City Manager for Police, to
apply for, accept, reject, alter or terminate this grant on behalf of the City; and
3. In the event of loss or misuse of the PSO grant funds, the City assures that the funds will be
returned to the PSO in full.
