TO CONTINUE REVIEW OF THE VIABILITY
OF A PUBLICLY FUNDED SOCCER FACILITY
WHEREAS, in 2019, the FW Sports Authority commissioned a study to determine the
opportunities for Fort Worth to participate in the youth sports tourism market;
WHEREAS, the study recommended that a soccer facility would provide growth in the
City's youth sports tourism market,
WHEREAS, the FW Sports Authority commissioned a second study to determine the
best sites for a soccer facility to participate in the youth sports tourism market;
WHEREAS, City Council subsequently asked City staff to investigate the viability of
including a professional league soccer team and larger stadium than was previously
recommended as part of the site plans for a soccer facility and expand the intended market from
only youth sports tourism; and
WHEREAS, the FW Sports Authority contracted with CSL International to provide a
viability study for including a larger soccer stadium as a part of the soccer facility that could host
a professional league soccer team.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, THAT:
1. The City Council hereby expresses its support for City staff to continue
investigating the viability and funding capacity of the City to build a publicly funded soccer
facility which includes a new stadium large enough to host a professional league soccer team.
2. City staff is directed to continue working with the FW Sports Authority and its
consultant, CSL International, to take all necessary actions to finalize the cost of constructing
such a publicly funded soccer facility.
