Division for the period 2407-2448 was recommended for funding but funds were not available. Since
September 1, 2407, the program has been funded at a reduced level by a grant from the Texas Education
Authority. With this new grant application, If awarded, the grant year will begin September 1, 2049,
through August 31, 2014,
The Diamond Hili Canneatian After-Schooi Program provides supervised after-school educational, cultural
and recreational activities for middle and high school age youth. It is also designed to promote school
attendance, discipline and learning. A major function of the program is to provide participants with the
skills needed to improve their academic competency in reading, writing and mathematics. With this grant,
the program will continue to serve youth ages 10 through 17.
This program serves to complement other program services offered at the Diamond HiII Community
Center including the Comin' Up Gang Intervention Program, Senior Citizens of Greater Tarrant County,
Inc., programs such as the congregate Lunch program, Youth Sports programs, and a boxing program.
Effective October 13, 2003, Section 3.2021 of the Texas Administrative Code was amended to require that
entities applying for these grant funds designate an "Authorized Official" who is given the power to apply
far, accept, reject, alter or terminate a grant. This M&C would authorize the City Manager to designate the
Parks and Community Services Department Director as the Authorized Official for the City.
This grant does not require the City to provide matching funds. However, the Criminal Justice Division
does require that the City Council ensure that funds will be returned in full if any grant funds are lost or
misused.
