AN ORDINANCE MENDING SECTIONS 12-1, 12-2 AND 12-3,
CHAPTER 12 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH
(1964) , AS AMENDED, BY ESTABLISHING FOUR MUNICIPAL
COURTS; CREATING FOUR JUDGES' OFFICES, DESIGNATING
A CHIEF JUDGE; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PRO-
VISIONS OF THE FORT WORTH CITY CODE IN CONFLIUT
HEREWITH; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND
NAMING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FORT WORTH, TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
That pursuant to the authority contained in Article
1200c of the Revised Civil Statutes of the State of Texas,
Section 12-1 of Chapter 12 of the Fort Worth City Code
(1964) , as amended, is hereby amended, and, after being so
amended, the same shall read as follows:
"Sec. 12-1. Four courts established;
jurisdiction of courts
There are hereby created, recreated,
established and designated four munici-
pal courts for the City, to be known as
Municipal Court No. 1, Municipal Court
No. 2, Municipal Court No. 3 and Munici-
pal Court No. 4 (two of which were former-
ly known as Corporation Court No. 1 and
Corporation Court No. 2) , for the trial
of misdemeanor offenses arising within
the City and for the trial of such other
offenses as may be provided by the ordi-
nances of the City or the laws of the
State. Each of the courts shall have and
exercise concurrent jurisdiction within
the City, and such jurisdiction shall be
the same as is now, or may hereafter be,
conferred upon all municipal courts by
the Special and General Laws of the State.
The powers and duties of each of such
courts shall be those defined and desig-
nated by the laws of the State and the
Charter. and Ordinances of the City."

SECTION 2.
That Section 12-2 of Chapter 12 of the Fort Worth City
Code (1964) , as amended, is hereby amended, and, after
being so amended, the same shall read as follows:
"Sec. 12-2. Four judges ' offices
created; temporary
judges; chief judge
There are hereby created and re-
created four offices of judge or re-
corder, who shall meet the qualifica-
tions specified in the Charter of the
City. The judges may transfer cases
from one court to another and the judge
of any court may exchange his bench and
preside over one of the other courts.
The Mayor shall have the power to appoint
for a temporary period such additional
or subs .-Iitute judges of the municipal
courts as are deemed necessary. The
Mayor, with the confirmation of the city
Council, may annually designate one of
the four judges as Chief Judge. "
SECTION 3.
That Section 12-3 of Chapter 12 of the Fort Worth City
Code (1964) , as amended, is hereby amended, and, after be-
ing so amended, the same shall read as follows:
"Sec. 12-3. Powers of the chief judge;
authority of judges
Unless otherwise determined by the
City Council, the Chief Judge may pre-
scribe the conditions under which the
additional or substitute judges shall
sit as judge in any of the municipal
courts; further, he shall direct the
assignment and trial of cases and order
the transfer thereof to or from any
court. The judge of each of the munici-
pal courts shall exercise exclusive ju-
dicial authority over the judgments,
orders and decrees of his particular
court. The trial of cases in each of
the municipal courts shall be consistent
with the rules and procedures prescribed
by the Chief Judge."
SECTION 4.
This ordinance shall repeal every prior ordinance and
provision of the Fort Worth City Code in conflict herewith
but only insofar as the portion of such prior ordinance
or provision shall. be in conflict, and as to all other
ordinances or provisions of the Fort Worth City Code not
in direct conflict. herewith, this ordinance shall be and
is hereby made cumulative.
SECTION 5.
If any section, part of a section or provision of any
section of this ordinance shall be held to be void, in-
effective or unconstitutional by a court of competent
jurisdiction, the holding of such section, part of a sec-
tion or provision of any section to be void, ineffective
or unconstitutional for any cause whatsoever shall in no way
affect the validity of the remaining sections and provisions
of this ordinance, which shall remain in full force and ef-
fect. The City Council would not have passed any sections,
parts of sections or provisions of any section of this ordi-
nance that were unconstitutional, void or ineffective if
it had known that they were unconstitutional, void or in-
effective at the time of adopting this ordinance.
SECTION 6.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force
and effect from and after the date of its passage, and it
is so ordained.
