Environmental Actions
In August 2022, the Park & Recreation Department (PARD) will begin consultant selection for a
study on drainage/erosion/dredging of waterways, ponds and lakes throughout the park system.
The scope of the study will include the preparation of an inventory of all ponds, lakes and other
water bodies on park land, and the development of prioritization criteria for the dredging of ponds
and lakes.
Survey and soil sampling will be conducted on the highest priority waterbodies in order to assess
the cost of dredging and disposal of dredged material. Recommendations to dredge or leave
sediments in place will be based on the type and quantity of the pollutants, if present. Best
practices are followed when there is a discovery of a foreign object within water body, up to and
including contacting law enforcement.

Storm Water Management Coordination
PARD and the Transportation & Public Works Stormwater Management Division (TPW SW) have
worked together to consider opportunities to integrate stormwater management solutions with
recreational opportunities. This partnership has resulted in addressing erosion caused by off-site
drainage at Sandy Lane Park, and the development of the Zoo Creek Dam in Forest Park to
address flooding in south Fort Worth. Additionally, stormwater management areas such as the
dry detention basin located at Hulen Street and Bryce Avenue is open to the public and used as a
passive recreational space.
The two departments will continue to work together on projects in which recreational and
stormwater management goals align, will work together to address higher level planning and
management of storm water to find further efficiencies.
Should you have any questions regarding this Informal Report please contact PARD Acting
Director Dave Lewis or Assistant City Manager Valerie Washington.
