HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 5609-08-2022 RESOLUTION 5�0 C)9 - 08'- a o as RESOLUTION FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE DECLARATION OF LOCAL DISASTER IN THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS IN RESPONSE TO SEVERE WEATHER WHEREAS, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a disaster declaration for 23 Texas counties on August 23,2022,upon finding that severe storms and significant flooding pose a threat of imminent disaster, including widespread and severe property damage, injury, and loss of life, due to river flooding, flash flooding, and damaging winds in several counties of north Texas; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth has experienced river and flash flooding as a result of severe weather that pose a threat of widespread and severe property damage, injury, and loss of life; and WHEREAS,pursuant to Texas Government Code § 418.108, Mayor Mattie Parker issued a Declaration of Local Disaster Due to Public Health Emergency on August 25, 2022, in response to severe weather impacting the City of Fort Worth("Executive Order"); and WHEREAS, pursuant to Texas Government Code Chapter 418 and the Texas Disaster Act of 1975, the City Council must renew or continue the Executive Order for the Executive Order to remain in effect beyond seven (7) days; and WHEREAS,the City Council wishes to extend the Executive Order for the protection of the health and safety of the residents of the City of Fort Worth. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH,TEXAS: I. 1. That the Executive Order, a copy of which is attached, is hereby continued through 11:59 pm on September 27, 2022, unless extended, modified or terminated early by the Mayor or the City Council. 2. That all of the regulations provided in the Executive Order and this resolution are hereby declared to be governmental and for the health, safety, and welfare of the general public. II. That this resolution for the continuation of the Local Disaster Declaration in response to severe weather shall take effect immediately from and after its issuance. Goodall City Attorney C11Secretary pF FORr� DECLARATION OF LOCAL DISASTER IN THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS IN RESPONSE TO SEVERE FLOODING WHEREAS, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a disaster declaration for twenty-three Texas counties impacted by flooding on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 upon a finding that severe storms and significant flooding pose a threat of imminent disaster, including widespread and severe property damage, injury, and loss of life, due to river flooding, flash flooding, and damaging winds in several counties of north Texas; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth has experienced river and flash flooding as a result of severe weather that pose a threat of widespread and severe property damage, injury, and loss of life; and WHEREAS, in response to the state of emergency resulting from the severe weather, the City of Fort Worth must take necessary action to ensure the safety of its citizens during this unprecedented circumstance; and WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Fort Worth has determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect public health and safety; NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: I. That a state of disaster is declared for the City of Fort Worth for severe weather response. II. That the City's Emergency Operational Plan has been implemented. III. That the state of disaster shall continue for a period of not more than seven days of the date hereof, unless the same is continued by consent of the City Council of the City of Fort Worth, Texas.
