The library held two events to help Texas educators build their classroom libraries with gently used books and donated material. Although most discarded material is sold online, children's material does not sell well so the library has been saving them since 2020. These events were approved by Mayor and Council in November 2022. The first event was held on December 3 and 4, 2022 at the Central Library. The library served: • 225 K-12 educators and homeschool parents • 10,000 books were given away • 52 teachers signed up for the library's Educator Library card The second event was held on February 25 and 26, 2023 and there was significant growth. The library served: • 663 educators (preschool through higher education) and homeschool parents (194% increase) representing 72 schools and organizations • 20,700 books were given away (107% increase) • 63 (21 % increase) people signed up for the special Educator Library card The library is working on developing a third Fill the Bag event for August 2023. The plans for this event have not yet been finalized.
