HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 17260-11-2006ORDTNANCE NO. 17260-11-ZOOb AN ORDINANCE TNCRIrASTNG THE ESTIMATED RECEIPTS AND APPROPRTATIONS TN THE GRANTS IN THE AMOUNT OF $98,723, SUBJEC'T' TO RECEIPT OF THE GRANT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES (COPS), FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING THE CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNOLOGTES AND AUTOMATED SYSTEMS FOR AND PURCHASE OF 400 MAGNETIC STRIPE READER DEVICES TO EQUIP POLICE OFFICERS; PROVIDING FOR A SZ/VERABILITY CLAUSE; MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF PRIOR ORDINANCES AND REPEALING ALL PRTOR ORDINANCES iN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That in addition to those amounts allocated to the various City departments for the Fiscal Year 2006-07 and in the Budget of the City Manager, there shaIl also be increased estizznated receipts and appropriations in tine Grants Fund in the amount of $98,723, subject Co receipt of the grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Services, for the purpose of funding the continued development of technologies and automated systems for and purchase of 400 magnetic stripe reader devices to equip police officers. SECTION 2. That should any portion, section or part of a section of this ordinance be declared invalid, inoperative or void for any reason by a court of coanrzpetent jurisdiction, such decision, opinion or judgment shall ui no way ixnpaix the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of this ordinance, which said remaining provisions shall be and remain in full force and effect. SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No. 17142 and alT other ordinances and appropriations amending the same except in .those instances where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with such other ordinances and appropriations, in which instance said conflicting provisions of said prior ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed. SECTION 4. This ordinance shaIl take effect upon adoption. Authorize the City Manager to apply for and accept, if awarded, the U.S. Department of Justice COPS 2006 Technology Grant in the amount of $98,723; and 2. Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the Grants Fund by $98,723 subject to receipt of the grant. ®ISCUSSION: The COPS 2006 Technology Grant provides direct funding for fibs continued development of technologies and automated systems to local and state jurisdictions to assist in investigating, responding ta, and preventing crime. Grant funds will be used: 1. Ta purchase 400 magnetic stripe reader devices to equip police officers with the ability to read the magnetic stripe on driver licenses and 2. For the development of a software interface that will make the reader compatible with current police technology. FISCAL INFORMATIONICERTIFICATION: The Finance Director certifies that upon approval of the shave recommendations, and adoption of the attached appropriation ordinance, funds will be available in the current operating budget, as appropriated, of the Grants Fund.
