COLLECTI�N CONTRACT IN LAKE COUNTRY ESTATES WITH Dl���A�J �1�(�5�4�, liv�.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Counci{ autnorize the City Manager to execute an amendment tQ City
Secretary Contract No. 2550$ with Duncan Disposal, Inc., a Texas cor�oration, to extend the current
contract for a period of six months from �ctober 1, 2402, #hrough March 31, 2003. The estimated
cantract amount for this six-month extensipn for solid waste and recycling' collection will be $199,800.
D15CUSS14N:
On January 4, 20Q0 {M&C PZ-2162), the City Cauncil authorized �h� assumpiion af the Tarrant County
Municipal Utility District No. � contract fo� solid waste collect�on and #he annexation of the neighborhood I
known as Lake Country Estates.
The current contract amer�dment is to ex�end �he existing sol�d waste and recycling collection contract
with Duncan Disposal, lnc. for a period of six months firom Octaber 1, 2002, through March 31, 2403.
Th�s extensian period wi11 al�ow time far a new contract to be proposed and negotiated with the City's
new Solid Wasie Management Plan. The targeted start date for the new contract Es April 1, 2003. This
co�tract am�ndment wi11 keep the Duncan Disposal, Inc. contract i� sync with the Waste Management
contract ex�ension amen�ment and is based �pon the same terms. �
The rate to be paid to Duncan Disposal, inc. wil! be adjusted by a minimum of 8%. The rate adjustment
will be based on the change in the Consumer Price Index for urban wage earners and clerical workers
(akl items) #or the DallaslFort Worth region for the preceding eontract year (at a minimum of 3%} pl�s an
additional 5%. The rate ad�ustment for the Duncan D9sposal, Inc. contract, as negatiated, will go into
effect October 1, 2002.

The Finance Director certifies that upon approvaf of the above recommendations, funds will be
available in the �Y2a02-20�3 operating budget, as appropriated, of the Solid Waste Fund.
