COUNCIL ACTION: Approved on 31$12005 -Ordinance No. 16322-03-2005
DATE: Tuesday, March 08, 2005
LOG NAME: 35FUNITURE REFERENCE NO.: **G-14705
SUBJECT:
Adopt Appropriation Ordinance far $49,370 in Federal Awarded Assets Fund to Purchase Furniture
for the Police Department
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached supplements! appropriation ordinance
increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the amount of $49,370 in the Federal Awarded Assets
Fund for the purchase of furniture for various police facilities.
DISCUSSION:
Over the past several years, when Federal Awarded Asset receipts permitted, the Police Department has
budgeted $75,000 annually for furniture replacement. This is necessary due to normal wear and tear that
occurs with aver 9,600 employees across multiple facilities. New furniture has also assisted the depar#ment
in more efficiently utilizing limited space as staffing increases.
Funds of $75,000 are included in the FY2005 budget. However, City staff is currently warlcing to move the
Gang Unit to Meacham Airport to a more suitable space and freeing space at the Police and Fire Academy
for a computer lab for Records Management System training. Furniture requirements for this move will
consume a large portion of the available funds. Rather than postponing scheduled projects, City staff
recommends that Awarded Assets Funds available from increasing receipts be appropriated for this
purpose.
FISCAL INFORMATrONICERTIFICATI®N:
The Finance Director certifies that upon approval of the above recommendation and adoption of the
supplemental appropriation ordinance, funds will be available in the current Operating Budget, as
appropriated, of the Federal Awarded Assets Fund.
