HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 16332-03-2005ORDINANCE N®. ~ ~ ° ~~"° ~ ~~ AN ORDINANCE DECLARING ELECTED TO OFFICE TIE UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES FOR THE OFFICE OF MAYOR AND FOR TIIE OFFICE OF CITY COUNCILMEMDER FOR CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT NOS. 3, 5 AND 9; PROVIDING THAT THE ELECTIONS ORDERED FOR MAY 7, 2005, FOR SAID OFFICES SMALL NOT IIE HELD; PROVIDING FOR THE POSTING OF COPIES OF THIS ORDINANCE; PROVIDING FOR T.HE ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATES OF ELECTION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WIIEREAS, on February 22, 2005, the port Worth City Council adapted City Ordinance No. 16298-02-2005, calling for and ordering elections to be held on May 7, 2005, at which elections all qualified voters may vote for. the purpose of electing a Mayor at large and eight (8) City Councilmernbers from their respective districts; and WHEREAS, the deadline of March 7, 2005, for filing an application for a place on the ballot for the respective elections has expired; and WHEREAS, the deadline of March 14, 2005, for filing a declaration of write-in candidacy for said elections has expired; and WHEREAS, the Fort Worth City Council, pursuant to Section 2.052 of the Texas Election Code, has received froacn the City Secretary a "Certification of Unopposed Candidacy" (attached) certifying that following the expiration of said deadlines, only one (1) person has filed as a candidate for the election to the ollice of Mayor, and only one (1) person has filed as a candidate in each of the elections for City Council District Nos. 3, 5 and 9; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED l~Y THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEAS: SECTION 1. That pursuant to Section 2.053 ofthe Texas Election Code: a. Mike Mancrie~ being an unopposed candidate for election to the office of Mayor, is hereby declared elected to that office; b. Ghuck Silcox, being unopposed candidate for election to the office of City Councilmember far District No. 3, is hereby declared elected to that office; Ordinance No. 1 lV~; ~p(~ C..3.~ ^ ~~ Page 7 c. Donavan Wheatfall, being unopposed candidate for election to the afl~ce of City Councilmember for District No. 5, is hereby declared elected to that office; d. Wendy Davis, -being unopposed candidate for election to the pffice of City Councilmember for District No. 9, is hereby declared elected to that office; SECTION 2. That the elections ordered for May 7, 2005, for the office of Mayor and for the offices of City Cauncilmember for City Council District Nas. 3, 5 and 9, shall not be held. SECTION 3. That a copy of this ordinance shall be pasted oaa May 7, 2005, Election Day, at each of the polling places which would have been used in the elections for the af~ces of Mayor and City Councihnerr~ber for City Council District Nas. 3, 5 and 9. SECTION 4. That pursuant to Section 2.053 of the Texas Election Code, certificates of election shall be issued to Mike Moncrief; Cheek Silcox, Donavan Wheatfall and Wendy Davis in the same manner as provided for a candidate elected at the election. SECTI®IV 5. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and effect upon adoption, and it is so ordained.
