HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 6907 INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 6907-Page 1 _ y�,p.�afo A January 17, 1984 f FoRrw To the Mayor and Members of the City Council u i • TENTH YEAR OObMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PRIORITIES exA Subject: Background In order to provide a basis for development of the Statement of Program Goals and Use of Funds for the Tenth Year Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which eanmences on June 1, 1984, both Planning and Housing and Human Services staff have been working with the Neighborhood Advisory Councils (NACs) to prepare a list of priorities for the coming program year. The list of priorities presented below reflects both NAC input and staff analysis of the City's needs. In making this assessment, the staff recognized the following major considerations: - The need to work toward the self-sustaining revitalization of Fort Worth's inner-city neighborhoods, particularly the Special Eh phasis Areas (SEAS) - The need to achieve the Housing Assistance Plan (HAP) goals; - The need to maintain the principle of concentration of program resources within limited geographic areas for maximum tangible benefits. An exhibit containing the list of recommended program priorities was presented at a public hearing held on Monday, January 9. After the hearing, and in light of the input received, the Community Development Council met in regular session and formally endorsed the following list of priorities. Tenth Year CDBG Priorities 1. Housing a) Citywide 1. Rehabilitation Assistance for Owner-Occupied Housing 2. Emergency Rehabilitation Assistance 3. Fair Housing Affirmative Action b) Target Areas 1. Rehabilitation Assistance for Rental Properties 2. Weatherization c) Special Emphasis Areas 1. Intensive Marketing of all City Housing Programs 2. Infill Housing Development 3. The CDBG applicaticn will be submitted to the City Council fcr review and approval and then submitted to the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
