The Texas Municipal League (TML) Committee of cities has been meeting from time to time to discuss the cities joint participation in this case. The planned intervention of the group of TML cities is providedin detail in Attachment A. The City of Fort Worth Department of Law/Utilities Supervisor have taken an active part as one of the joint interveners in the past seven cases which have occurred since the establishment of the Public Utilities Commission in 1975. The results of this joint TML Cities approach are dramatically portrayed in the following tabulation: (IN MILLIONS OF DOLLARS) TML- Company's Cities' PUC Staff PUC Examiner's PUC Request Evidence Recommendation Recommendation ORDER 1976 $ 298.3 $ 61.5 $ 49.8 $ ------ $ 57.8 1978 214.3 118.0 105.7 ------ 124.5 1979 143.7 109.8 156.4 137.2 138.8 1980 326.3 73.4 152.7 114.3 114.3 1981 469.8 176.8 -249.3 243.7 243.7 1982 471.5 210.0 307.4 243.9 243.9 1983* 1,300.0 640.0 960.0 855.0 817.0 TOTALS $1,38 $1,981.3 N/A $1,740.0 1983 figures are at best approximations, necessitated because of numer- ous revisions due to confusion from AT&T divestiture. A major portion of the 1983 increase represents a divestiture-required rearrangement of costs between AT&T and Southwestern Bell . However, the figures provide an accurate comparison of the parties' positions and Commission results. There will be no cost to the City of Fort Worth to join with the other 161 cities (as of 4/19/85) in this endeavor. There are some funds remaining from the original assessment made several years ago, and the 1983 Legislature amended The Public Utilities Regulating Act (PURA) so that Southwestern Bell and other members of the telephone industry are now required to reimburse the TML for its consultant's costs. It there are no objections raised by the City Council the staff (City Attorney/Utility Supervisor) will proceed with the city's intervention in this case.
