HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 9140 INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 9140 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council October 27, 2009 6 j ��p �� 5 Page 1 of 2 k a SUBJECT: TARRANT COUNTY UPDATE 41% Of specific interest, at its October 20 meeting, the Commissioners Court: (1) presented to State Representative Charlie Geren the Texas Association of Counties' Friend of County Government Award, (2) approved the tax abatement agreement for the Omni Convention Center Hotel, (3) approved Amendment No. 1 to the tax abatement agreement with Bank One, N.A. as previously assigned to JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., and (4) approved renewal of the interlocal agreement with the City of Fort Worth for rabies control/animal control services. The agenda for each Tuesday's Commissioners Court meeting is posted Friday of the previous week and can be viewed at the website indicated above. Regarding the H1 N1 issue, a briefing was provided to the Commissioners Court by Lou Brewer, Director of the Tarrant County Public Health Department (TCPH). The details of that briefing are as follows: Monday, October 19, Tarrant County received 500 additional doses of vaccine —these are the injectable type. These additional doses are being distributed this week to school health nurses and emergency health responders. • The State of Texas is working to target "private providers" as far as its distribution of H1 N1 vaccine and the public should contact these providers for information regarding availability of the H1 N1 vaccine. * Tarrant County has been advised that larger shipments of the H1 N1 vaccine are to be expected in November with additional shipments continuing in December and even January. The County has initially ordered 25,000 doses. Ms. Brewer noted that the 1,000 doses (500 nasal and 5070 injectable) received thus far were not a part of this order. * In response to a question from Judge Whitley, Ms. Brewer stated that she could not provide the details in terms of the number of people who have contacted Tarrant County for the HIN I vaccine. * Finally; Ms. Brewer reported that there is still an adequate supply of the seasonal flu vaccine with a steady,, flow of citizens seeking these injections. Finally, County staff provided an update regarding the expansion of the medical examiners office- * Construction plans have been prepared and submitted to the City for review and approval.
