SUBJECT: TARRANT COUNTY UPDATE
t@T.4
Of specific interest, at its October 27 meeting, the Commissioners Court: (1) approved the
creation of a Tarrant County local data advisory board for the purpose of developing a data
reporting improvement plan and provides that among others appointed to serve, "the City of Fort
Worth Chief of Police or designee" be appointed to serve as a member of this advisory board;
and (2) approved an "additional services request from GideonToal to provide civil engineering
necessary to accommodate the City of Fort Worth requirement for off-site utility improvements
related to the new jail project included in the 2006 Capital Improvement Program". Should you
wish to review the entire agenda for the October 27 meeting, it can be accessed at
www.tarrantcounty.com and click on COMMISSIONERS COURT AGENDA. The agenda for each
Tuesday's Commissioners Court meeting is posted Friday of the previous week and can be
viewed at the website indicated above.
Regarding the H1 N1 issue, a briefing was provided to the Commissioners Court by Lou Brewer,
Director of the Tarrant County Public Health Department (TCPH). The details of that briefing are
as follows:
,p • Friday, October 23, Tarrant County received 3,110 additional doses of the H1 N1 vaccine.
• Friday, October 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. the County will hold an H1 N1 vaccine
event for pregnant women and high-risk children 6 months to 18 years of age. The site for
this event will be the W. G. Thomas Coliseum at 6108 Broadway in Haltom City. This site
was selected by the County because of a highly successful "seasonal flu" inoculation event
that was conducted there on October 9. Further, Ms. Brewer noted that there is good traffic
flow, crowd control, security and that the Coliseum could accommodate a large number of
people.
• The next H1 N1 vaccination event will be held at the Resource Connection Center at 1100
Circle Drive in Fort Worth with the exact date being subject to the availability of a sufficient
supply of vaccine.
• Dr. Sandra Parker of the Tarrant County Public Health Department, in response to a
question from the Court, stated that the H1 N1 vaccine comes from a number of sources
across the united States and that it is extremely difficult for the County to predict the exact
date and time of receipt of shipments of the vaccine.
The Court also inquired as to how much vaccine has been made available to "private
providers". Ms. Brewer stated that, at presents the County has not received up to date
information from the State of Texas but has requested it. County Administrator C. K.
Maenius stated to the Court that upon receipt of this information, the Court would be
informed.
