SUBJECT: November 2009 — Sales Tex Update
In response to the volatile nature of Sales Tax revenue, the Staff`committed to providing you a brief update
of the sales tax collections. The Texas Comptroller's Office posted results November 4th. You may recall,
sales tax reporting experiences a two month lag and this November report reflects taxes that were collected
in September.
Below you will find the September recap for the City of Fort Worth. You will see our collections compared
to (I) last year, (2) the adopted budget, and {3) neighboring cities. Hopefully this information will provide
you immediate perspective on our results as well as equip you for questions you may have to entertain.

Note: The average percentage change from the previous year among the comparison cities is -6.0%. The
City of port Worth has seen a decline in year to date collections of-5.7% from FY 08. Our collections are
average compared to other cities.
In light of the continued deterioration €f sales tax revenue, staff is pursuing more sophisticated �
analysis that will assist in better forecasting sales tax revenue. The analysis will also allow staff to
develop a more accurate estimate of this revenue source and evaluate the need fora id-year
expenditure adjustment,
