HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 9154 INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 9154 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council November 17, 2009 age 1 of 3 D/%ii j/;aUy �y SUBJECT: November 25, 2009, Furlough The FY2010 adopted budget closes a $59 million shortfall by increasing fees and revenues, cutting back on some city services and reducing personnel costs. One of the strategies implemented to reduce personnel costs includes eight furlough days. The next furlough day is Wednesday, November 25, 2009. All general employees are required to take furlough days. The furlough day is a day off without pay. As a result of the furlough day, some city services and programs will be unavailable. Fort Worth Municipal Building (City Hall), Marshall Public Safety Building (Municipal Courts), community centers, drop-off stations and most city buildings will be closed. Services that will remain open on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, are: • Fire emergency services • Police services. (The Records Unit and the Identification Unit will be closed to the public.) •Weekly garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky item pickup will take place as usual on November 25. •Alliance, Meacham and Spinks airports • Fort Worth Convention Center and Will Rogers Memorial Center will be open for previously booked events. •Golf courses, Fort Worth Botanic Garden, Fort Worth Herd, McLeland Tennis Center, / I Fort Worth Zoo, Fort Worth Water Garden (water features will not be operating) •Water Call Center at 817-FW-24-HRS (392-4477) (payments can also be made online) •City Call Center: - City Switchboard at 817-392-CALL(2255) - Environmental Management at 817-392-EASY(3279) - Code Compliance at 817-392-1234 - Animal Care and Control at 817-392-3737 - Transportation & Public Works at 817-392-8100 All non-emergency service requests to Code Compliance, Animal Care and Control and Transportation & Public Works will be logged, but not responded to on November 25, Code Compliance, the Emergency Management Office, Equipment Services, IT Solutions, Planning and Development, Transportation and Public Works and Water will have staff available to respond to emergency requests as needed. I i The Central Library will be dosed November 25-27. All other libraries will be dosed November 2 -27, On closure days: • No library materials will be due, and due dates will be extended to December 1. i • No electronic requests for materials will be processed. •Book drops will be closed. Normal iibrary operating hours resume November 28. i TEXAS INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 9154 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council November 17, 2009 Page 2 of 3 SUBJECT: November 25, 2009, Furlough The Community Relations Department will also be using a variety of tools in English and Spanish to inform the public of changes to city services resulting from the November 25 furlough, including: • Reverse 9-1-1 phone message to the entire city beginning November 16 and continuing through November 23. • Informational Hotline (817-392-2255) to provide information on availability of city services and programs • News releases to the media •Signs posted at all city facilities that will be closed November 25 •City Web site • City Page advertisement in the Star-Telegram, La Vida News -The Black Voice and La Estrella En Casa •City Cable • Neighborhood E-news e-mail updates to neighborhood organization and subscribers •ACToday employee e-mails Following the furlough day, the City will observe Thanksgiving holidays on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27. On those days, these offices and services will be closed: •All City of Fort Worth offices • Fort Worth Business Assistance Center •All community centers and Haws Athletic Center • Fort Worth Municipal Court •Log Cabin Village These services will be available Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27: • Municipal golf courses •Fort Worth Botanic Garden grounds and Japanese Garden These services will be available on an alternate schedule: • Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge will be closed Thursday and open Friday • Fort Worth eater Gardens will be closed Thursday and open Friday •The Fort Worth Herd will be on the move at 1130 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday only • Fort Worth Zoo will be open noon to 4 p.rn. i Thanksgiving is one of three holidays when garbage= recycling and brush will not be picked up curbside. For residents whose regular pickup would be Thursday, Nov. 26, pickup will take place on Friday, Nov, 27. For residents whose regular pickup would be Friday, Nov. 27, pickup will take place on Saturday, Nov_ 28. i AS E INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL. The drop-off stations will be closed November 26. The Environmental Collection Center—for disposal of household chemicals such as oil, gas, paints, antifreeze, brake fluid, cooking grease and more —will be closed November 26-28. Garbage, recycling and brush pickup schedules are not affected, and the Environmental Management Department's three drop-off stations will be open.
