However, at the February 9 meeting, David Phillips, Facilities Manager for Tarrant County, provided an update regarding the construction of the new medical examiners facility and reported that plans are now under way to construct an additional third floor to the facility. The additional floor will initially remain vacant and will be used to accommodate future growth as warranted. In the course of his report, Mr. Phillips was extremely complimentary of City Staff reporting to the Court that the process of applying for and securing the necessary permits has progressed very efficiently because of the professional and prompt work of City staff in the Development, Fire, Water, T/PW, Infrastructure Review, and Urban Forestry departments. Following Mr. Phillips' report, the entire Court expressed its appreciation to the City for this outstanding work. In addition, at the February 16 meeting, Chris Klaus, Senior Program Manager for the North Central Texas Council of Governments, made a presentation regarding the "Regional Emissions Enforcement Program". A copy of the presentation is attached for your review. Key points of the presentation are that: • Within the 9 county area, an estimated 20% of all inspections are counterfeit, fictitious, fraudulent or improperly conducted • To combat this issue, Dallas County, in 2007, implemented an enforcement program and has seen a reduction in the number of fraudulent inspections. Collin and Denton Counties have begun programs as well. Following the presentation, the Court requested that County Administrator, G. K. Maenius, present a plan of action for Tarrant County's involvement in this program. Mr. Maenius stated that, in doing so, Tarrant County will seek the involvement of the City of Fort Worth in the planning and implementation of this program. Finally, Mr. Maenius indicated that several meetings have already been held to discuss this program. Should you wish to review the entire agenda or associated documents for the February 9 or 16 meetings, they can be accessed at www.tarrantcounty.com and click on COMMISSIONERS COURT AGENDA. The agenda for each Tuesday's Commissioners Court meeting is posted Friday of the previous week and can be viewed at the website indicated above.
