Subject.. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION GRANT - STOCKYARDS AREA
During the last session of Congress, Congressman Jim Wright was successful in
having $4,500,000 allocated to the Economic Development Administration's bud-
get for improvements in the Stockyards area. This came about as a result of
a joint effort between the Congressman and principals of Triad Corporation.
This grant will allow the developer and the City to accomplish some of the
longer range projects for the area much sooner than originally planned.
Since it is a "demonstration" grant , no City match is required. Although the
funds have been appropriated, the City must still formally apply for a grant
in order to receive them. Included on the January 21, 1986 agenda is M.
G-6552 which requests authorization to apply for the grant and accept it 11
offered. This item also has been scheduled for discussion during the Pre-
Council meeting on January 21, 1986. Hugh Farmer, Regional EDA Director,
will be in attendance at both meetings to answer questions regarding this
grant .
Congressman Wright will be announcing the grant award on Monday, January 20,
1986, at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Livestock Exchange Building. Representa-
tives from the Regional Economic Development Administration office in Austin
will be present and all members of the City Council and the City Manager's
staff have also been invited.
If additional information is desired on this matter prior to that time, it
will be supplied upon request.
