0 March 4, 1986
Subject: CAMP BOWIE BOULEVARD, WEST SEVENTH STREET,. UNIVERSITY DRIVE
1071 AND BAILEY STREET INTERSECTION
On November 10, 1983, (M&C G-5812), the City Council approved Minute Order
No. 8116900021, dated August 25, 1983, which provided for certain modifica-
tions to the subject intersection. The purpose of these modifications was to
reduce vehicular waiting time at the intersection and thereby reduce the
volume of traffic moving through nearby residential areas in order to avoid
the intersection. As a result of citizen input at various public hearings
concerning the project, it became clear that public support for the project
was limited or non-existent, and that the City would encounter substantial
opposition to the project from area residents and businesses. Accordingly,
the City Council advised the State Department of Highways and Public Trans-
portation via Mayor & Council Communication G-6517, that it no longer sup-
ported this project.
The Texas Highway Commission has now passed Minute Order No. 84035 deleting
this project from the Urban Systems Program. No further action is necessary
on the part of the Council . Funds allocated for this project will be used to
finance other City projects within the Urban Systems Program.
If additional information is desired, it will be furnished upon request.
