Subject: MESQUITE PIPELINE UPGRADE PROJECT
CHEVRON PIPE LINE COMPANY
The Chevron Pipe Line Company has advised the City that it intends to replace
the old "Weatherford to Fort Worth" pipeline segment of the Mesquite Pipeline
System with a new "Cleburne to Fort Worth" pipeline segment. The old line
(which varies in diameter from 8" to 6") from Weatherford enters Chevron's
terminal on Cold Springs Road (about two miles north of the downtown area)
from the west. The proposed new 12" diameter line from Cleburne will enter
Chevron's terminal from the south and east.
Chevron's objectives are, generally, two-fold: to improve the safety of the
entire Mesquite Pipeline System which was constructed in the early 1950's and
which needs major repairs; and to improve Chevron's capacity to serve the
greater Fort Worth market. The proposed 12" line has been sized to
accommodate projected Fort Worth demands for refined products into the 21st
Century.
The proposed "Cleburne to Fort Worth" segment will be built in compliance
with all appropriate federal , state and local codes and safety regulations.
It will be buried pipeline and will follow existing pipeline, utility and
rail corridors for almost all of its 32-mile length of which approximately 20
miles will be within the City. Where possible, the pipeline will be jacked
or bored under the pavement at street crossings so as to minimize
interference with traffic and eliminate utility cuts in the pavement. Where
jacking or boring is not possible and utility cuts are necessary, the work
will be done under strict City surveillance. The project should not
otherwise impact on the City.
Chevron expects to commence work in early 1988 and to complete the "Cleburne
to Fort Worth" segment in about 5 months. The City assumes no financial
obligation in connection with this project.
Additional information will be provided on request.
