HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 7248 INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS NO. 7248 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council January 12, 1988 motVAr," Subject: STATUS REPORT ON MUNICIPAL BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS m(o� ` 1071 RELOCATIONS TO THIRD FLOOR It is planned that with the completion of the third floor of the Municipal Building the Mayor and City Council, the City Manager's Office, the City Secretary's office, and the Law Department can be relocated to their designated locations on the third floor during the week of January 11. The City Secretary's files are scheduled to be moved beginning Wednesday, January 13. On Friday, January 15, the Law library will be moved. On Friday afternoon, January 15, all telephones will be switched from their current locations on the second floor to new locations on the third floor. On Saturday, January 16, all other files, office furniture, and other items for the Mayor and City Council, City Manager's Office, City Secretary's Office, and the Law Department will be moved to the new locations on the third floor. OPEN OFFICE SYSTEMS FURNISHINGS Areas on the third floor of the Municipal Building which are designated to be occupied by the Mayor and City Council, the City Manager's Office, the City Secretary's Office, the office of oplk Management Services, Finance, and Internal Audit have been designed to utilize open office systems furniture.- On November 24, 1987 (M&C C- 10672), the City Council authorized a contract with Ted Roos & Associates to provide partitions for use in Office of Management Services, Finance, and Internal Audit open areas. Delivery and installation of partitions are expected in April. Bids are currently being solicited for the open systems furniture required in the areas to be occupied by the Mayor and City Council, City Manager's Office, City Secretary's Office, and Municipal Reference Library. These bids are scheduled to be received and opened on January 14. It is hoped that a contract can be awarded for this furniture on January 26. Delivery and installation will probably not occur until May. Until the open office systems furniture is received, existing desks and partitions will be used in the new areas. Funds for the purchase and installation of the open office systems furniture on the third floor were approved to be carried over from the 1986/87 budget year and are available in General Fund 01, Non- departmental Account No. 90-55-00. IMPROVEMENTS ENABLING COMPLIANCE WITH BUILDING CODE On April 21, 1987 (M&C C-10240), the City Council approved amending City Secretary Contract No. 14080 with V. Aubrey Hallum for the design of work required to bring the Municipal Building into compliance with certain lifesaving provisions of the City's Building Code. The work includes providing fire sprinklers on the lower level and fire walls on the second floor of the Municipal Building, providing modified balconies on the second floor of the Municipal Building 'to improve ISSUED BY THE CITY MANAGER FORT WORTH, TEXAS INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 7248 p.2 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council 006, X Subject: STATUS REPORT ON MUNICIPAL BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS 10711 space utilization and circulation on the second floor, and providing fire sprinklers in the basement under Tenth street and in the Public Safety Building. Redesign of the Pre-Council Meeting Room has been added to this work. The plans for the fire sprinklers, fire walls, modified balconies, and Pre-Council Meeting Room redesign have been received and are currently being reviewed by the Fire and Development Departments. It is recommended that the construction management concept that was successfully utilized to do the work on the third floor be continued and that the contract with McCord Construction Company, who has provided those services be amended to include this additional work. It is anticipated that a contract amendment would be awarded on January 19 for construction managment. Requests for bids could be packaged, advertised, and opened by February 11. Construction contracts could be awarded and executed by February 23. Construction could begin in early March and be completed by September 30. No funds have been budgeted specifically for this project. It is recommended that funds be transferred from the Capital Project Reserve Fund, Unspecified Projects to accomplish the necessary code compliance work. If the City Council concurs with the plans and scheduling as indicated, staff will proceed with actions necessary to amend the contract for construction management and prepare requests for bids to do the project. Staff will return to the City Council for approval of the required contracts in accordance with the schedule outlined. If additional information is required, it will be furnished upon request.
