space utilization and circulation on the second floor, and providing
fire sprinklers in the basement under Tenth street and in the Public
Safety Building. Redesign of the Pre-Council Meeting Room has been
added to this work.
The plans for the fire sprinklers, fire walls, modified balconies, and
Pre-Council Meeting Room redesign have been received and are currently
being reviewed by the Fire and Development Departments.
It is recommended that the construction management concept that was
successfully utilized to do the work on the third floor be continued
and that the contract with McCord Construction Company, who has
provided those services be amended to include this additional work.
It is anticipated that a contract amendment would be awarded on
January 19 for construction managment. Requests for bids could be
packaged, advertised, and opened by February 11. Construction
contracts could be awarded and executed by February 23. Construction
could begin in early March and be completed by September 30.
No funds have been budgeted specifically for this project. It is
recommended that funds be transferred from the Capital Project Reserve
Fund, Unspecified Projects to accomplish the necessary code compliance
work.
If the City Council concurs with the plans and scheduling as
indicated, staff will proceed with actions necessary to amend the
contract for construction management and prepare requests for bids to
do the project. Staff will return to the City Council for approval of
the required contracts in accordance with the schedule outlined.
If additional information is required, it will be furnished upon
request.
