To the Mayor and Members of the City Council February 7, 1989
Subject:
fill SMOKE ALARM PROJECT
During the Year XIV Budget process, the Community Development Council
agreed to set aside $3,250 of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
Year XIV funds for the Fire Education and Prevention Foundation's Smoke
Alarm Project. The CDBG funds were to be used to purchase 1,000 smoke
alarms for installation in Southeast and North Fort Worth. The approval
was contingent on the Fire Education and Prevention Foundation matching
the CDBG funds with an equal amount ($3,250) which was to be raised by
November 30, 1988. Through efforts made by the Foundation, the required
match was raised.
Through installation of 1,000 smoke alarms by a cadre of volunteers from
March through May, 1989, the Fire Education and Prevention Foundation will
increase the number of working smoke alarms in Southeast and North Fort
Worth thus conserving existing sound housing stock and, at the same time,
saving lives and lowering the incidence of burned-out homes. The CDBG
target areas to be served are Far North, Diamond Hill-Jarvis Heights, Near
North, Near Southeast, Polytechnic Heights, Stop Six.
Sincerely,
-'an,
