The CDBG funds were to be used to purchase 1,000 smoke alarms for installation in Southeast and North Fort Worth. Through efforts made by the Foundation, the required match was raised. Through installation of 1,000 smoke alarms by a cadre of volunteers from March through May, 1989, the Fire Education and Prevention Foundation will increase the number of working smoke alarms in Southeast and North Fort Worth thus conserving existing sound housing stock and, at the same time, saving lives and lowering the incidence of burned-out homes. The CDBG target areas to be served are Far North, Diamond Hill-Jarvis Heights, Near North, Near Southeast, Polytechnic Heights, Stop Six.
