To the Mayor and Members of the City Council October 25, 1988
Subject: PROPOSED CBD TRAFFIC STUDY
10 71
As a follow-up to City Council action on Tuesday vacating Lamar Street
from West Weatherford Street south to West Second Street, the City staff
has proposed to initiate a comprehensive traffic study of the western
portion of the Central Business District. Funding for consultant
participation in the study would come from Tandy Corporation' s monetary
payment for the closing of Lamar.
The closure of Lamar Street and the creation of a Tandy Center
it superblock" is in accordance with the Fort Worth Central Business
District Plan adopted in 1983 . To successfully implement the
01 superblock" concept and to encourage and promote additional growth and
development in the CBD, it will be necessary to review and evaluate
traffic flow in the downtown area. Substantive citizen participation
and involvement in this project will be essential to the development of
an improved and more effective traffic pattern. Participation in the
plan will be encouraged with extensive notification efforts and numerous
public hearings.
The Tandy Corporation "superblock" proposal affords the City an
opportunity to critically reexamine the current traffic situation in the
CBD and to work with concerned property owners, tenants and the general
public to develop a new traffic plan. If the City Council concurs with
this proposal , the staff will present a detailed description of the
proposed process at a future workshop.
Sincerely,
A9
