HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 7304 INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 7304 #,PT I*, July 19, 1988 jV Rp To the Mayor and Members of the City Council Subject.Update on Amendments to False Alarm Ordinance '07 3 With additional direction from the City Council , the ordinance amending Chapter 12 of the City Code, Emergency Reporting Equipment and Proce- dures, now contain the following key provisions which differ from the original staff recommendation. * Permits will not be required for residential alarm systems until a false alarm notification is received as a result of an alarm from that system. After a system has experienced a false alarm notification, a $15.00 two-permit is then required ; * A process to appeal the decision of the chief regarding "false alarm notifications has been added ; * The purpose of an alarm system has been expanded in section 12-3 (e) (3 ) to include systems designed to detect unauthorized intrusions; * Permits may be renewed if the applicant is in the appeal process for outstanding service fees for an alarm system at another site; * The amendments will go into effect January 1 , 1989. The Federal Register , Vol .53, No. 29, February 12, 1988, Pages 4213-14 lists the Poverty Income Guidelines issued by the Department of Health and Human Services for 1988 as follows: FAMILY SIZE 100% The Alarms Unit will use these guidelines in determining whether 1 $ 5,770 the permit fee will be waived . 2 7,730 3 9,690 4 11 ,650 5 13,610 6 15,570 7 17,530 a 19,490 For each additional member above e, add 1 ,960.
