HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 7300 INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 7300 VOJ?,- To the Mayor and Members of the City Council July 5 , 1988 Subject: Taxes on an Average Value Home In the last session of the Texas Legislature a number of changes were adopted to the truth-in-taxation laws and are effective for 1988. Among these changes is a new "Notice of Public Hearing on Tax Increase" format which is required to be published if a tax is being considered for adoption which is in excess of the lower of (01.03 x. the new effective tax rate or (2) the rollback rate. These rates were previously estimated on IR No. 7287 (May 24, 1988) to be $.7474 and $.7938 respectfully. A copy of the required notice is attached for the Council's information. One of the new information items contained in the notice is a comparison between the current and prior years of the taxes on an average value home.
