a 71 Subject: PETITION FOR N. BEACH STREET SCHOOL CROSSING
FLASHING WARNING LIGHT
On Tuesday, April 5, 1988, Mrs. Kim Morrison, 4213 Heath Street addressed the
City Council concerning the installation of a flashing school zone on North
Beach Street. She also submitted a petition with signatures of residents in the
Summe'rfield's area supporting the request.
The Traffic Engineering Division has worked with the principal of Parkview
Elementary School to provide proper signing on the streets around the school for
the safety and well—being of the students. In 1987, flashing lights were added to
the 20 mile per hour school zone on Longstraw Drive immediately north of the
school. On April 12, 1988 City Council approved an ordinance establishing a 20
mile per hour school zone on North Beach Street. Flashing lights will be
installed for this school zone during the summer months prior to the next school
year.
This summer the Traffic Engineering Division also plans on installing additional
school zones with flashing warning lights on Schwartz Avenue to serve W.A.
Meacham Middle School and M.H. Moore Elementary School; on Miller Avenue to
serve Eastland Elementary School and on James Avenue to serve Greenbriar
Elementary School.
Further information will be provided upon-request.
