Subject: N&C P-2442, TURF MAINTENANCE VEHICLE
M&C P-2442 recommended the City Council authorize the purchase of
a turf maintenance vehicle from Watson Distributing Company.
Goldthwaite's of Texas submitted a lower bid on a simular vehicle,
but one which did not meet City specifications.
The two major specifications that were not met by Goldthwaite was
their vehicle was not a four wheel type and most importantly the vehicle
does not have a power take-off (PTO) drive.
The vehicle requested will be used to provide a wide range of
maintenance needs in the Botanic Gardens which will require several
types of auxiliary equipment to be attached. In order to attach the
auxiliary equipment, the vehicle must have a PTO, or another power
unit would be necessary to operate the auxiliary equipment. The need
for the PTO was the basis for the specification of a standard four
speed transmission instead of a hydrostatic transmission.
Should the Council need additional information it will be provided.
