HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 6030-12-2024A Resolution NO.6030-12-2024 APPOINTING JESUS "JAY" CHAPA AS CITY MANAGER FOR THE CITY OF FORT WORTH WHEREAS, on or about July 29, 2024, David Cooke announced that he would be retiring as City Manager for the City of Fort Worth, effective February 28, 2025; and WHEREAS, Chapter V, Section 1 of the City of Fort Worth City Charter provides that the City Manager shall be appointed by the City Council to serve as the chief administrative and executive officer of the city and be chosen solely on the basis of executive and administrative training, experience, and ability, and without regard to political consideration; and WHEREAS, in late 2024, the City conducted a national search to fill the position of City Manager; and WHEREAS, Jesus "Jay" Chapa is an'accomplished executive with over twenty-three (23) years of local government experience with the City of Fort Worth, beginning as a budget analyst and serving as the Deputy City Manager, and has vast experience dealing with a variety of diverse municipal issues; and WHEREAS, Jesus "Jay" Chapa also has valuable private sector experience; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to appoint Jesus "Jay" Chapa as City Manager, to have all rights and powers of such office under the City Charter and Code of Ordinances and to be compensated for the position as determined by City Council. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS THAT: Jesus "Jay" Chapa be appointed as the City Manager for the City of Fort Worth with such appointment to be effective as of January 27, 2025.
