To the Mayor and Members of the City Council
September 24, 1991
Subject:
Fire Station Recreation Center
On Tuesday, September 17, 1991, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater
Fort Worth's Board of Directors decided not to include restoration of
the Panther Branch's South Complex in their upcoming capital campaign.
There currently exists $622,153.07 in the 1986-88 Capital Improvement
Program designated for the construction of a gymnasium on the existing
Fire Station Park. With the withdrawal of the Boys and Girls Club
from the joint restoration project, staff will proceed with the
project as originally conceived. We would anticipate the selection of
an architect by January, 1992, and construction beginning by year' s
end.
Even though the restoration project was determined to be economically
unfeasible for the Boys and Girls Club, we will continue to work with
them on potential opportunities for innovative programming and shared
use of both our facilities.
